“The industrial way of life leads to the industrial way of death.”

- Edward Abbey

By Vi Ransel

8/9/07

Elise ran,
wild-eyed and wildly,
through the green field, pursued
by an angry man wielding a weapon.
He beat her when he caught her
and threw her
into the back of his van.

He babbled on
about her supple flesh
as Elise’s brown soft eyes
wept terror. And when
the kidnap van suddenly
stopped, he drove her
toward his leering partner,
waiting impatiently to begin
his diligent ministrations.
And then he hit her
- hard -
but not enough
to completely stun her.

As Elise screamed and kicked,
he went methodically about his work,
encircling her white ankle
with a chain and began the ritual,
hoisting her
into the proper position
for his further imposition.
But unlike de Sade,
mere terror and torture
were not enough
to sate him.

The dull knife
began to slit her throat
and white hot sheets of lightening
seared across the surface of her skin.
As the knife plunged all the way in,
Elise screamed, gurgling blood,
again and again and again,
but no one
would be coming
to rescue her.

This Jack the Ripper needed more
than blood, he needed bowels,
her liver, lungs,
her very womb to spill
hot from her body,
absolving him.
He slashed further,
further, further, flayed
and began
to dismember her,
still living dissection.
Was there
an erection?

The last thing Elise saw
was others dancing
the same macabre rhumba,
and multiple moments of blessed death
revealed the man not one in a million,
but one of millions of men
bursting with the same banal blood lust,
using the Earth as an abattoir
to devour the life She births.

A SPECIAL MESSAGE TO OUR READERS.

For over two years now, Thomas Paine’s Corner has been a powerful and unwavering voice for a courageous and badly needed agenda for change. We have consistently delivered hard-hitting and insightful commentary, polemics, and analysis in our persistent efforts to persuade, educate, and inspire, and serve as a discriminating but generous platform for voices from many points of view with one thing in common: their spiritual honesty and quality of thinking.

Aside from the caliber of its content, Thomas Paine’s Corner’s strength is that there are no advertisers or corporations to exercise de facto censorship or orchestrate our agenda. We aim to keep it that way and we need your help!

As a semi-autonomous section of the multi-faceted, thoroughly comprehensive, and highly prestigious Cyrano’s Journal Online, we share Cyrano’s passion for winning the battle of communications against systemic lies, an act which is essential to attaining social and environmental justice. To help us achieve that goal, Cyrano’s Journal, besides its regular editorial pages, intends to begin producing editorial videos to expose the lack of proper context, ahistoricalism, excessive over-emphasis on inane events, and outright lies the corporate media, and in particular television, present to you and your family as a steady diet of pernicious intellectual junk food. This will be an expensive under-taking and there will be no grants forthcoming from the likes of the American Enterprise Institute, the Coors or Heritage Foundation. You can be sure of that!

As Greek mythology has it, the powerful are frequently defeated by their own hubris, and that’s precisely what we are witnessing today. Our rotten-to-the-core, usurping plutocracy has become so overtly and arrogantly corrupt that our patience has now reached its generous limit, and the membrane of America’s collective consciousness is about to burst. This will result in a significant restructuring of our socioeconomic and political environments, we hope (and must make sure) for the better. Considering what is at stake in the world today, Cyrano’s Journal and Thomas Paine’s Corner want to accelerate the arrival of that new day, and its promise of a new, truly well organized, kind, and honest civilization.

Assisting us in our cause is as simple as clicking on the PayPal button below and exercising the power of your wallet. No matter how large or how small, we thank you in advance for your donation! I have seen the undercover PETA videos before. They make me sick. Unfortunately, not sick enough to quit eating meat, yet. I have been raised to accept the slaughter of animals as being quite normal. I have even been told that “God” said it is ordained, because we as humans are the superior species and the earth and all other species were made to be used to our benefit. I used to accept that as truth without question, and who can blame me. The consumption of meat is pervasive in American for sure, and I would guess it’s the same many places across the globe. The problem is, people like myself, who are disgusted and ashamed when we actually see the reality of our consumption, we can easily avoid the grisly visuals shown above and through PETA

I would love to give up meat. I’m sure I would feel better spiritually, mentally I would be more incline to come down of the pedestal of self righteousness, and there is no question in my mind about being healthier physically. The question becomes why, do I continue to engage in behavior that is detrimental to me and the global community in which I live. The most honest answer would be selfishness. It is all too easy to forget about the slaughter and focus on the meal, grocery stores and restaurants, make it expedient.

I am not making excuses for eating meat, nor am I assenting to the belief it is inherently wrong. What I am doing is admitting that the slaughter of animals to feed my hunger is something I might want to consider. I will admit beyond a shadow of doubt, that if I had to slaughter an animal every time I got ready to eat a burger, I would eat a lot less meat if any at all. It’s time for me to do some soul searching, thanks for the reminder.

I try to honor the animals sacrifice by not wasting any and eating all manner of meat but I would also be eating much less if I was doing the slaughtering. I believe man is a carnivorous animal by nature, not by necessity and that alternative diets, although commendable, should not be elevated to a higher state of spiritual being. We are unavoidably animals, however enlightened or unenlightened.

Hey fellas, I just became a vegetarian, today is my fourth day and i feel wonderfull. I never thought i could do it, but i did and it’s not bad at all. I still use milk and eggs though, I don’t think there is anything wrong with that because no animal died because I consume milk and eggs. The problem is I lift weights and I don’t want to take chances with my protein needs. Besides, we all need vitamin B12, that is the only vitamin that don’t come from plants - we need an animal source for this vitamin. That’s where milk and/or eggs come in handy. Peace and love. Namaste.
