In my recent article “The End Of America: The Police State Is Right Here, Right Now” I included experiences of escalating intimidation on the part of law enforcement in the United States within recent months. I must confess that when I cite such incidents, I fear that in a few days or weeks, it will all go away, and everyone else, myself included, will begin to question the validity of the examples, breathing a heavy sigh of relief and rejoicing that the situation isn’t nearly as dire as I’m asserting it is.
This time, however, I have nothing to fear because since that article was posted, the ante of out-of-control law enforcement in America appears to have been upped with a rapidity that I could not have imagined just a few weeks ago.
Have we not all heard about the New York woman on her way to rehab who passed through the Phoenix airport, became distraught when she had just missed her flight, and was arrested for disorderly conduct by airport police? The suspect, Carol Ann Gotbaum, was handcuffed and then placed in a holding cell and left alone. According to police, when they returned, she was dead. At this writing, Gotbaum’s family and officials are awaiting the autopsy report-the “official” cause of death.

Awakened midnight nobody home. Alone against the music of the Angry Young.
Kid outside screamed poems into a mike. Squat amp dragged behind him on a wagon. Surrounding friends clapped stomped cacophonous. Launched his dithyrambs against The City. Cannonades of sing-song bass.
Josh razed Jericho with song.
“Turn off the NOISE and tune in The VOICE of The Nation.”
That ad from somewhere I remember. Subway maybe. Turned on the stereo. Fight noise with noise. Lonely like I’ve never. Unbearable rip. Inside. Alone me in the middle of the night.
Tried to reach The VOICE myself. Dialed, the line was jammed. WSOS after midnight. The VOICE beseeched by the Sleepless of The Nation.

Don’t be too surprised to meet a violent death within the next few decades. Just because the concentration camps in America aren’t “active” yet doesn’t mean ‘we’ aren’t Nazis. Take Iraq, for instance. If we forget about the dubious ideas of “Nations” and “Clashing Idea Sets” we might see the Iraqis as…uh…HUMAN BEINGS. In which case Iraq has been one giant concentration camp since 1991. Think of it as a “test run” for Homeland Security. After all, THEY know when you are sleeping, THEY know when you’re awake…
For instance, some folks say the NSA has a SUPER-MAGIC MOJO VACUUM that can suck all the data outta all the software of the world, suck the rhythm from our loins, suck the oldest, dampest long-forgottenest, memories of Mommy from our numb cerebrums.

In April, 2007 I was pleasantly surprised to find Naomi Wolf’s article, “Fascist America, In 10 Easy Steps” posted in several places online. I have been a fan of Wolf for many years, greatly appreciating her works and especially her 1991 book, The Beauty Myth. I had been looking for a list-or more specifically, an encyclopedia of the losses of civil liberties in the United States that might clarify for my history students the extent to which America has become a fascist empire. Wolf’s “10 Easy Steps” was perfect, but her just-published book, The End Of America: Letter Of Warning To A Young Patriot, from which the 10 easy steps was compiled, offers an even fuller picture-a succinct and engaging explanation of how our civil liberties have been hijacked in the past decade. It is the most poignant, powerful, genuinely patriotic piece of literature I have encountered since Thomas Paine’s Common Sense. No wonder then, that the book’s cover greatly resembles that 46-page tract by Paine written in 1775-as well it should.

On September 11, 2001 a series of horrendous events happened. Planes brought down two buildings of the World trade Center complex in New York City; the Pentagon was hit; and another crashed in a Pennsylvania field. It was a shock to the systems and psyches of the people of the United States and the world. It has been repeated more times than I can count the “world changed forever.” Personally, I think that is a grandiose claim, but it set in motion a series of decisions and events that continue to the present.
Bush reportedly “joked” after 9/11 that he had “hit the trifecta.” His choices after that event have ruined the lives of millions, and drug the United States into the dubious honor of being a rogue nation.

ADRIENNE KINNE: I was in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves from 1994-2004 as an Arab linguist in military intelligence. I served stateside in that capacity.
BETWEEN THE LINES: What triggered your interest in IVAW and actually to join them?
ADRIENNE KINNE: Actually, I was mobilized in the Reserves after 9/11 almost immediately. And, working as an Arabic linguist in military intelligence, I saw kind of behind the scenes that the intelligence really was not there. I mean that the sources of intelligence were from groups that had interests in getting Saddam Hussein out of Iraq and that they were funded by our country. And I personally couldn’t understand why we were giving any credence to any of the intelligence out there. And I didn’t support the invasion of Iraq, but I really didn’t know how to do anything about it. So I stayed in the military until the Stop Loss was over and I was able to get out, and still I didn’t know really what to do or how to make my voice heard or how to speak out against the war.

“Menezes was shot in the head seven times during the chase on to an underground train, which happened two weeks after the major terrorist suicide bombings in London on July 7, 2005, and an attempted repeat attack on July 21″.
Fit the evidence to the crime and close ranks .. this particular crime happened on Traitor Tony Blair’s watch …. he has been well rewarded for his perfidy .. we hear that he now has hobnobbed with the Pope, has a luxury home in Jerusalem and is the Middle East Peace Envoy .. ugh! pass the bucket I need to vomit.
The incident was quite clearly engineered by the British Security Apparatus.. The whole purpose of these engineered incidents is what the military used to call .. ‘putting the frighteners on’ .. Empire has beens and Empire would be’s are well versed in such tactics .. I know .. I have been part of it.
Trust us .. we are doing this to protect you .. nothing could be further from the truth.
It was done to send a message to the British Public .. in the same way the US and Israel sends messages to its Citizens .. Menezes was the Messenger .. the Lamb and also the Warning to the Public ..
We will kill you like a dog in the gutter .. and send the ashes to your loved ones in an urn .. you have been warned..
No ifs or buts .. we control the press .. we control the education system …. we control the justice system .. we control the economic system .. we will tell you what to think .. believe in the rule of law .. we will protect your sniveling shitty little lives and save you from the big black scary infinite.
